Democracy works best when elected leaders reflect the broadest possible support of the people they serve. Our election system should encourage citizens to vote for the candidate they genuinely believe will best serve their community—not simply the candidate they think has the best chance of winning. Whenever reasonably possible, elections should produce leaders who have earned the support of a true majority of voters.
Symbols matter because people matter. Flags, seals, monuments, and other civic symbols are more than designs or pieces of fabric. They carry stories about who we are, where we have been, and who we hope to become. Their meaning is found not only in their colors or imagery, but also in the memories, identities, experiences, and relationships people attach to them.
Fiscal stewardship is about more than balancing a budget. It is about being a responsible steward of the public's trust. Every tax dollar belongs to the people of Champlin before it belongs to City Hall. Residents earn that money through their work, their businesses, and the choices they make for their families. Government therefore has an obligation to treat public funds with the same care, discipline, and accountability that people expect when managing their own household or organizational budgets.
Compassion and accountability belong together. This position addresses how Champlin can protect the dignity of people receiving supportive care while strengthening provider accountability, public safety, behavioral-health response, and coordination with County and State agencies.
Public safety requires strong police, fire, and emergency services, the right response to behavioral-health crises, responsible use of technology, regional preparedness, and accountability to the people we serve.
